TT legend McGuinness restarts motor racing

Isle of Man TT legend John McGuinness will swap two wheels for four this weekend when he makes a foray into motor racing.

He will ride at Brands Hatch in the Ginetta GT Academy, the Yorkshire-based sportscar company‘s one-make series that runs alongside the British GT Championship.

The second most successful TT racer of all time, who returned to the historic event this year after his two-year COVID break, will join the grid of over 30 identical Ginetta G56 GTA cars at the Kent circuit, after having first invited for a test run in one of the company’s cars at Croft last year by owner Lawrence Tomlinson.

This follows his circuit debut last year at Donington Park in the Fun Cup Series, where he competed alongside downhill mountain bike legend Steve Peat in a GT Radial, finishing 12th out of a field of 25.

“After making my racing debut in the Fun Cup at Donington Park last year, I can’t wait to continue racing on four wheels, so I’m really looking forward to this weekend,” said the fifties. old recruit.

“Lawrence very kindly invited me to Croft last August for a spin in the GT Academy car. I knew straight away I had to drive it, and what better place than the iconic British circuit of Brands Hatch? »

Both McGuinness races will be streamed live on Ginetta’s YouTube channel next Sunday.
