Tent experience in Antarctica

White Desert has long been a key player in the Antarctic exploration game – a gateway for the curious that doesn’t involve the commitment, time, or training of a full-fledged expedition. His first camp here, Oasis from where – accessible by air from Cape Town throughout the season – opened in 2012, and was designed with an entry-level experience in mind. The new camp, Wolf’s Fang, raises the bar, both on adventure and remoteness, located in an area heretofore accessible almost exclusively to seekers and a few rugged climbers.

The six tents, designed for two people, use sustainable technology for heating and plumbing. Guests can abseil, ice climb, and hike (or cycle) to any of the surrounding rock pillars along the ice cap, “day” or “night” – it’s 24 hours of sunshine here, so you can choose your nap hours. In St Barths, Charlie and Mandie Vere Nicoll are about as initiated as they can get; the longtime owners of the Hotel St-Barth Isle de France sold this property a few years ago to Cheval Blanc, and took over another must-see island, The Toiny. Today, they have under their aegis one of the best private homes on the island, available for take-back this fall. The four-bedroom Villa Nureyev takes its name from its famous sole owner, who built the property in the late 1970s. In its multi-level spaces – with simple unvarnished wooden walls – much of the original decor and whimsical remains: furniture, objects collected during the dancer’s travels, photo albums, even a costume or two. There are two masters and a separate suite with its own terrace and small swimming pool, a lovely open kitchen and a small but perfect spa. The focal point, however, is the huge main deck – 3,000 square feet of space, cantilevered out to the Caribbean, with 180-degree views of the sea and coast. Lovers of the international team of Estiatorio Milos restaurants – and you don’t have to live in London, Miami, New York or Vegas to be a part of it – will be delighted to hear that these masters of tavern haute cuisine will soon be opening their first hotel in the center of Athens. Xenodocheio Milos, which accepts reservations from October 15, sits opposite the Old Parliament and has no shortage of timeless views – but its 43 rooms offer 100% modernity, with light wood floors and wood-paneled walls, marble tubs, high ceilings and terraces. Parisian hoteliers seem to emerge across all systems: as evidenced by the highly publicized opening of White horse in the historic Samaritaine building. Not far away, in the large 19th century building of the Louvre Central Post Office, is Madame Dream, which debuts in November. Since 2013, it has been the passion project of restaurateur and hotel-development maven Laurent Taïeb, who worked with designer Bruno Borrione (the man behind Madame Pic in the City of Light as well as the Fasano in Rio de Janeiro) .

Its 82 rooms and suites on the top floor, including several with terraces directly overlooking the Sacré-Coeur, the Eiffel Tower or Notre-Dame Cathedral, promise discreet luxury and high-fidelity sensuality. On the rooftop, meanwhile, is a Japanese-influenced restaurant and nearly 1,000 square feet of planted gardens and terraces. From 500 €,
