The Detroit Grand Prix returns to Belle Isle in June

Racing fans, it’s this time again. Belle Isle comes back to life with the Detroit Grand Prix race. Now that the restrictions on exterior masks end on June 1, the Grand Prix can accommodate a fuller house allowing thousands more than what would have been allowed during the restricted compactness of the crowd. They were planning this event long before the restrictions were lifted, but they no longer have to keep it at 20% capacity. The additional grandstand seats went on sale today and are only available for purchase online.

Detroit News Reports

“Our top priority has always been to provide a safe and fun experience in Belle Isle for our fans,” said Michael Montri, president of the Chevrolet Grand Prix Detroit. “As we followed the protocols in place throughout our planning and the preparation for the Grand Prix enters its final stages, there are many fan activities and attractions that have been featured at our event in the past – like the music live – not going to be included in 2021. We have heard from many of our fans who can’t wait to be back in Belle Isle for a world class event and we are delighted to offer this opportunity to a few thousand fans additional each day at the Grand Prix. “

The event takes place from June 11 to 13 in Belle Isle. They still follow Michigan health and safety guidelines and total attendance for this year will be reduced as their goal is a safe event for all. The attractions added this year are Corvette Races and Indy Lights. There were free tickets available for Comerica Bank Free Prize Day, Friday June 11, and it was sold out. Now that new capacities are added due to the end of restrictions, there will be more free tickets and you can book them here.

This is likely the first major race in Michigan since the pandemic. With vaccinations getting closer to 70%, we are now reopening things and making life feel normal again. It will be a fun time in Motor City with Grand Prix Racing back in town!
