Solent LEP appoints new directors of Portsmouth and Havant to take the helm

Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) announced the new members of its 16-member board this week.

LEP is a business-led partnership charged with driving the economic success of the Solent region and those who join the Board will now play a key role in supporting the growth of the Solent economy.

Among those joining the organization are Councilor Steve Pitt, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Economic Development for Portsmouth City Council, and Cllr Alex Rennie, Leader of Havant City Council.

Rachael Randall, Acting President of Solent LEP, said: “I would like to welcome all the new members of our Board of Directors who join us to ensure Solent businesses reach their full potential and help our communities to thrive.

“We have long been a champion of diversity, and I am particularly pleased that we have a gender balance on our Board of Directors to reflect the business community we represent.”

Also joining LEP are Cllr Satvir Kaur, Leader of Southampton City Council, Cllr Julie Jones-Evans, of Isle of Wight Council, Brooke Hoskins who is part of BAE Systems and Salli Shapcott who runs Serco’s UK maritime business .

Along with strategy development, LEP is a major investor in the Solent economy and offers a growth program valued at over £1.8 billion backed by LEP investment of over £270 million.

It was the first LEP in the country to have a fully elected council and has developed strong and collaborative relationships with public, private, education and community sector partners to advance investment and encourage innovation in the Solent region.

The LEP Board of Directors is made up of directors from the public, private and education sectors.

All positions are filled on a voluntary basis, with new additions being confirmed following an open application process earlier in the year.
