Kush the red panda dies

Kush the red panda has passed away, just eight years old.

Well known across the island – having escaped Curragh Wildlife Park not once, but twice – it’s safe to say that “Krafty Kush” was a character.

The notorious escape artist was also a father – he had to be recently separated from his wife “Sara” in an effort to prevent them from recurring.

Curraghs staff say they are “shocked and saddened by his passing” and know this news will be a real sadness for all visitors, with Kush being the favorite of many.

In a social media post, they say Kush suffered a sudden loss of coordination on Tuesday and was taken to the vet for anesthesia to investigate.

However, his condition worsened and despite care from guards and other interventions at the vet office on Wednesday it was clear he was slipping away – so the decision was made to put him to sleep to avoid suffering. additional.

A complete autopsy will be performed as for any animal that died in the Park, even if it was old and death was expected.

Sadly, the park says Kush was still in his prime at age 8, making his death a bit more difficult for anyone who cared for him to bear.

Kush will be remembered for his larger than life character, and although his life was shorter than we expected it was certainly not without incident and he leaves 3 daughters to continue his lineage.
