A court challenge to the controversial planned public safety restrictions is due to be heard in the Supreme Court today.
Yesterday, the Constitutional Freedom Bermuda lobby group filed a summons to seek an injunction against government proposals, which it says discriminate against people who have not been vaccinated against Covid-19.
The measures, which are expected to take effect on Sunday, will mean unvaccinated residents returning from overseas will have to self-quarantine at a government-approved hotel at their own expense, rather than at home.
The CFB has confirmed that it will present its case at a hearing before the Supreme Court today.
The group said: “The overwhelming and obvious reality is that the proposed mandatory quarantine is not reasonably required, from a medical science or legal perspective.”
He added that the proposal “would unreasonably require unvaccinated Bermuda to actually be imprisoned, at their expense.”
The group added: “We are extremely confident that the government will be prevented from implementing the completely unreasonable proposed mandatory quarantine until the court has determined the substantive constitutional challenge.”
The CFB said the request was supported by expert advice from three doctors, including the former head of the Bermuda Medical Association, Dr Henry Dowling, as well as Dr Amani Flood and Dr Amne Osseryan.
The lobby group raised more than $ 70,000 to fund the court challenge.
The group added: “The CFB would like to take this time to thank the Bermuda public for their continued support.
“We look forward to informing the public at the end of the hearing and take this time to send a big thank you to all who have supported the preservation of Bermuda’s constitutional rights.
“We would like to warmly thank our legal team, led by Mark Pettingill of Chancery Legal and Courtenay Griffiths QC of 25 Bedford Row Chambers, who are assisted by Eron SL Hill.”
