BSB Ca … | O’Halloran punishes Hickman for late mistake

Jason O’Halloran took advantage of a late Peter Hickman error to snatch the victory in the third race of the weekend’s British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park, depriving the local man of a spectacular treble.

On a pivotal weekend for the Isle of Man TT record-holding experience, Hickman came to his home event with four BSB victories under his belt over a 15-year career.

However, he almost made the treble with FHO BMW this weekend after winning the first two races and setting himself on track to do the same in race three when he snatched Glenn Irwin’s lead on five at Mansfield.

Leading through to the final round, Hickman’s treble aspirations would be dashed by a loose moment as Coppice exited invited a gap that O’Halloran would need twice. Keeping his cool at the checkered flag, this means O’Halloran has won at all but one venue so far this season.

Tommy Bridewell couldn’t make his pole position count for him after a poor start forced him onto the recovery track, but he recovered his way to complete a pair of third-place results on the Ducati’s Oxford.

Lee Jackson got the better of defending champion Josh Brookes for fourth place, although the latter managed to overtake the weekend (and possibly the season) by nailing both Irwin and Jackson in Park,

Irwin fainted in sixth place after leading early on, ahead of Christian Iddon, who rebounded from his crash in race two for a useful seventh. Bradley Ray, Andrew Irwin and Gino Rea round out the top ten.
